Join Our Mission
Our Mission
Medicina Urbana is a student-run public health initiative based at the Universidad Central del Caribe (UCC). Our mission is to improve health equity across Puerto Rico by delivering free and culturally competent healthcare services. Our efforts focus into marginalized populations and shaping the next generation of physicians into socially conscious leaders and community advocates.
Our Vision
We envision a Puerto Rico where no community goes without preventive care. Our long-term goal is to become a national and regional model for sustainable student-led health outreach, driven by medical education, interdisciplinary partnerships, and meaningful engagement with underserved populations.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I become a part of Medicina Urbana?
If you're a current UCC medical student—you already are! All enrolled students are welcome to participate in our initiatives. There's no formal sign-up process. Simply stay tuned to our group chat and class rep announcements for clinic opportunities and event updates.
Who can participate in Medicina Urbana activities?
All UCC medical students, from MS1s to clinical years, are encouraged to join. Whether you’re new to medicine or seasoned with clinical experience, you’ll find meaningful ways to contribute—through direct patient care, outreach, research, or leadership.
How do I sign up for clinics and events?
We announce all activities through our official chat and class group chats. Each event has a Sign-Up, and spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis—so we recommend signing up early!
Do I need clinical skills to help?
Not at all! We host annual workshops on clinical basics—such as vital signs and patient interviews—especially tailored for first-year students, which are required to participate in clinics. Students can help with logistics, outreach, education, data collection, and much more.
